Pacific Flyway

The Hakai Institute’s Calvert Island field station is located along a major north-south migratory corridor, bringing many species of birds to the island. A bird banding study has been established there to monitor the birds as they come and go, gathering information on their age, sex, and health, then releasing them with a numbered band that can be looked up in a database if the birds are recaptured later.
