The Calvert Coastal Observatory is a year-round hub for science and safety on British Columbia’s remote Central Coast. Its self-supporting facilities champions coastal science, improves safety and fosters dialogue across the region.

Safety & Emergency Response
Base for communication, coordination & support. Dock, helipad, internet, VHF radio, AIS.
First aid, emergency response, spill response & coordination.
Response within a 40 km radius, subject to conditions.
Work with Coast Guard, RCMP, Fisheries, Park Rangers & First Nations Guardians.
Headquarters for Nearby Conservancies
Registration, orientation, education & support for visitors to the Hakai Lúxbálís Conservancy.
Manage all visits: ecotours, sailing fleets, kayak outfitters, schools & community organizations.
Resource center for the other nearby conservancies: Calvert Island, Koeye & Namu.
Work with BC Parks Rangers & Guardians to enforce policies.
Work with BC Parks Rangers to maintain trails.
Coastal Science Observatory
Hub for observation of the coastal ocean, fjords & watersheds.
Combine advanced instrumentation & human resources.
Training center for knowledge transfer to other organizations, extending our scientific footprint.
